The woman who stole R9 million,42-year-old Dinah Botes, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
Botes was sentenced on Friday, (16 February 2024), in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court, after she was found guilty of 126 counts of theft.
The court heard that between 2014 and 2019, when Botes was still an employee at Sitona Mining, she allegedly transferred over R9 million from her company’s coffers into her personal bank accounts.
Following an investigation by the Hawks’ Rustenburg-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, a warrant of arrest was issued against her and executed on 13 June 2022.
Lieutenant-Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, spokesperson for the Hawks in North West, said Botes appeared in court on the same day and was released on R30 000 bail. After making a series of court appearances, she was convicted and sentenced to 15 years for theft.
The North West Hawks Head, Major General Patrick Mbotho, lauded the investigation and prosecution team’s sterling work.
